SLU's The Duchess and I
Playwright, Director, and Designer
For this production I adapted the script of John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi. I directed the show using Viewpoints as a movement technique to create a tight knit ensemble. For set, lighting, and sound minimalism was used. The ensemble devised original work in the form of compositions and dance pieces connecting scenes from the original text. Below are a selection of compositions.

Movement CompositionThis is the opening composition of the show. We are utilizing anonymity and our Viewpoints. The first movements are choreographed, but then the actors created tableaus and go into open Viewpoints. Text will be added at a later time.

Gesture DanceTogether, the actors created five gestures that told the story of an abusive relationship. Then they came together, picked eight, and refined them. Finally, they selected music to accompany the "dance".

MadWomen CompositionIn this composition the Duchess's brother, Ferdinand, has summoned Mad Women to torture the Duchess. The women in the show modified the gesture dance. They will create an ending and add text as they continue to refine it.
